AlistairCockburn

His web site says "Alistair Cockburn (pronounced "Coburn", as in "James") is a specialist in developing object-oriented software. Group facilitation, OO design, requirements, project setup, or development process. He has done this in Hong Kong, New Zealand, America, Europe, and S. Africa, in Norwegian, German, and English"

I would call him a "software anthropologist". His book Surviving Object-Oriented Projects is really a collection of case studies. From his observations of successful projects, he has developed the "Crystal" family of methodologies, which includes CrystalClear.

His new, not-yet-published book, is Agile Software Development and I highly recommend it, based on my reading of the in-progress PDF file on his web site.

Alistair has a new website, http://alistair.cockburn.us/index.php/Main_Page , and a new bio available from that site. He continues to have useful things to say about Software development.
