BbRrrBofResults

In the months before AYE it became very clear to me we, the current stakeholders to Seasons of Change (who also happen to be stakeholders to BbbRr), were having many misunderstandings. Just before AYE, someone even wrote it was a workshop that would take a year.

My take on our misunderstandings was that once we had met communication would become easier. Bastiaan could not make it to AYE and just days before the conference started Laurent discovered he would not be able to get there this year either. The original BoF became unfeasible fast. But the overall seasons of change community and metaphor requirements could still be discussed. I assumed that to be obvious. Miscalculation.

The BbbRrBirdsOfaFeather appeared very much a reflection of our chaos as stakeholders, as I wanted to know "What (safety measures) would it take for you to participate in (our vague to be built) community?" to have a framework to develop a BbbRr trail in. Where BbbRr's first trail would provide information on what each of the BbbRr stakeholders would need for a full change cycle, as a first basic map.

Because the people that came to the BoF were generally helpful people and focused on effectivity they of course needed to know more about this vague community.

A discussion on safety issues shaped itself with many stories told on unbelievable stuff and unimaginable breaches of trust. I must admit, I did feel somewhat grilled afterwards.

And I also remember thinking it was well worth it when I heard Becky's pen on the paper right behind me in regular intervals. A list was created on what it would take to build a community of practice:

  • How do I want others to use this which would be how I expect to use materials - dollars, time periods, print rights, etc.
  • Reciprocity - commitment to give & back
  • warnings on how NOT to use materials or ideas
  • Links to create control over who uses + how it is to be used
  • Boundaries for author safety
  • Copyrights
  • Quality Standards and mechanisms
