I have way to many years experience (over 30)in the Information Technology industry but I have loved every minute of it. My experience covers many different roles in both the Systems Development and Computer Operations areas of IT, including several management positions.

In my current role as Quality Assurance Co-ordinator for Home Hardware Stores Ltd, I have been given a major role in defining and building the Quality function. Home's "Quality Journey" is based on the QAI model and its goal is to instil in the IT department the principals, processes and competencies of a CMM Level 4 company (we are currently at Level 2 and closing in on Level 3). Using strong management commitment, the resources available from the QAI and my leadership role as "Captain Quality", they have enjoyed many successes and steady progress towards reaching their goal.

I have had the opportunity to present the story of Home's 'Quality Journey' at several Quality conferences in both the U.S. and Canada and the positive feedback received has made me realize how much we have accomplished but also how far we have to go to reach our Quality goals.

To me its all about People and Process and Change and I am hoping to learn more about all of these and to share my own experiences at the AYE conference.

Hi, Brian, and welcome. I think you (and others) will find it best not to use curly quotes on your wiki posts. It creates funny things like "Quality Journey " on my browser. But I'm awfully glad to have "Captain Quality" here, so I'll repair them for you above. -JerryWeinberg 2002.10.15
