HalBrown

I have over 20 years experience in Project Management, Systems Engineering, and Software Engineering including CMM based software process improvement. I've been involved in every phase of the development life cycle in both the linear sequential (waterfall) model and the iterative (spiral) model. For the past three years I've been working for G. A. Sullivan, a software development company, as a project manager on small to medium projects ($200,000 to $750,000; 3 to 6 months duration). During my Boeing career I had project management experience on multi-year, multi-million dollar projects.

For a time I pursued a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. After 30 semester hours of course work and about 300 hours of a clinical practicum I decided the life of a therapist was not for me. However the lessons I learned about human behavior and group dynamics have given me the ability to lead teams through the normal phases of Forming, Storming, and Norming and quickly get to Performing. This has proved especially valuable leading software projects in todays rapidly changing e-commerce environment.

I have PMI certification as a Project Management Professional. I am also an ASQ Certified Quality Manger and a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer.

Im still not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but today I think Id like to be an independent consultant, speaker, and author. I hope the AYE conference will help me to bring these goals into focus and develop a plan to achieve them.

Hi Hal! With your background, it sounds as if you'll definitely find a home at the AYE conference. I, too, am trained in family therapy but don't believe that it's the home for me, though it's revolutionized my approach to building systems. Welcome! JerryWeinberg
Hi, Hal. I'm really looking forward to your contributions in the conference sessions. I'm sure all your experience will be a valuable addition. Welcome! Eileen Strider
Hi Hal, I'm like a "baby" in consultants world and going independent was one of the best things I ever did for myself. So I'm not mature at all, and I think maturity is highly overrated anayway. I think the "grown ups" are far too serious, don't you? Welcome!!! -NynkeFokma
Hal, it was a pleasure seeing you at the QAI conference last week. I hope your drive home was uneventful. For the rest of you, Hal, SherryHeinze, and I were all speakers at the QAI Canada conference. Tell all your Canadian cohorts about it, it was a wonderful conference. -- JohannaRothman
