JonathanSiegelVery excited to be at the conference! I'm a consulting statistician and information systems developer with 15 years experience. I help people collect and use information to learn about their business. I try to think about my work as using statistics and information systems to help people learn -- help people develop and improve models of their business and their world. There have been times I've been able to do this in a very tangible and successful way, and I would like to be able to do it more. Jonathan Siegel [email protected] Jonathan, welcome! I hope I have a chance to talk to you in person. I'm not a statistician; I called my statistics classes in college "sadistics", because I couldn't imagine how people could use statistics appropriately. Now I help my clients collect trends about all kinds of information, information that they only have to add, subtract, multiply, and divide to collect. I hope you can educate me a little more so that I can expand my repertoire. -- JohannaRothman 2004.04.29 Woops, make that 2003.04.29, now 2003.04.30 You will definitely bring an important and useful perspective to the sessions. Lot's of AYEers fit into the category with Johanna. They need to learn to tell stories with statistics, without lying with them. - JerryWeinberg 2003.04.29 You can tell that JR has trouble with numbers. She doesn't even know what year she's in. There are three types of people. People who are good with math, and people who aren't. DonGray 2002.04.30 (hoping to average Johanna's post back into current space/time) Welcome, Jonathan, I'm eager to hear about how you use statistics to help people learn about their business. I invested years learning about statistics so that I could do computer performance analysis. Unfortunately, up until now, I have yet to discover how to collect the relevant data necessary to statistically analyze a business. I've started a thread -- UsingStatisticsToHelp -- about the subject to get the ball rolling. SteveSmith 2003.05.01
