MartyVik

I have been in software development since 1978. I started reading Jerry Weinbergs books and it seemed like he was describing the company I worked for, even though the company changed a few times. I am a PSL graduate and have attended Wayne and Eileens Leaders Forum. This body of work has introduced me to a great collection of helpers.

For the last 3 years I have been a software manager for a very large company. Working in support has given me a completely different view of software development. It feels like I am starting over learning and applying measures and quality techniques to the delivery of software through outsourced partners.

I look forward to AYE and working through some of these problems with more experienced colleagues.

Hi Marty. I don't know how many "more experienced colleagues" you'll find, since you've been at it 25 years. (Of course, I've been at it twice as long, but that doesn't mean I'm more experienced, maybe only that I've had the same experiences more times.) But you will definitely find "differently experienced colleagues" who are willing to share and share alike.

And, speaking of experience, I wish there were some way to assure that every software developer and tester spent a significant amount of time in support. I think, then, our software development would look and feel very different. - JerryWeinberg 2003.10.14
