SessId024High Efficiency Intervention Okay, now there is a problem. It could be a project related problem, or an issue between staff members. Whatever it is, you have been called upon to resolve the problem. This is a precarious position to be in. If this happens often you may find yourself with limited time to implement a solution. Instead of being a problem solver, you become a solution generator. Solution generators are like the nursery rhyme woman who gulped a spider to catch the swallowed fly. When we are uncomfortable we tend to diagnose poorly and react expediently, adding layer upon layer over the real problem. Whats needed is a heuristic for intervening and making the problem visible without taking on total responsibility for solving it. The problem may not be solvable under the conditions and constraints of the situation. This would be important information to have and is often overlooked when we concentrate on finding the solution. Plus, if we are going to resolve all the problems that come up we are going to have to enlist the help of everyone involved and each according to their level of influence. This workshop will explore a way for intervening without becoming entangled. Participants will work in groups to learn how to help themselves, and the people they work with or manage, uncover the source of a problem and develop a plan to address it. -- BrianPioreck
