The Heart of the Matter Project Reviews
EileenStrider WayneStrider

It's fairly normal for IT projects to encounter trouble. Sometimes the magnitude of the trouble warrants an objective review by a third party. Perhaps you've been asked to provide an objective look as an outside consultant, an internal consultant or an experienced project problem solver. Perhaps you have worked on a project where a review was performed. Maybe this was a helpful experience and maybe not. Whichever roles you've played, you bring precious project experience to this session.

When you are reviewing a project, what do you look for in order to learn about a project's troubles? Where do you start? How do you focus the review? How do you listen to and talk with people about the project in a way that creates enough safety for them to tell you what's really happening? How do you use your experience to guide your review? How do you know you've gotten to "The Heart of the Matter"?

This session will explore approaches for project reviews that get to "The Heart of the Matter." The facilitators will share insights and techniques from their experience conducting effective reviews. In small groups, you will have an opportunity to share what you would look for in a review. Hopefully you will leave the session with increased appreciation for the value of project reviews and concrete ideas for how to get to "The Heart of the Matter" on your projects.
