WorkAround

When is a supposed BestPractice really a workaround in disguise?

I see it often. For instance, some operating systems require that the number of a LUN (a chunk of storage) be presented to the operating system in sorted order or it won't recognize some of the LUNs. Rather than note this specific need as a workaround for a specific operating system, some organizations decide sorted order for LUN presentation to all operating systems is a best practice. It is not. And that behavior screws up thinking when the rules for LUN presentation to the operating system change.

Do you see this behavior? Please share some examples.
