AYE News 7-14: Unique Learning Opportunities at AYE
With only a few weeks remaining before the AYE Conference starts on November 5th, you may still be on the fence about whether to join us. Perhaps you're asking yourself, "What is unique about AYE this year?"
We suggest reviewing what we've said so far about this year in past newsletters.
AYE is about amplification. By participating, you gain the tools to amplify your effectiveness by developing four fundamental abilities:
1. the ability to observe what's happening and to understand the significance of your observations
2. the ability to plan when a situation is complex and risky
3. the ability to communicate congruently in difficult inter- personnel situations, even though you may be confused, or angry, or so afraid you want to run and hide
4. the ability to steer a project to success through the integration of planning, communication and observation
The AYE hosts, guest speakers, and participants will expose you to new thoughts and tools to add to your abilities rather than insist you throw away your old thoughts and tools and start over. You won't find the transformation of these four fundamental abilities through addition rather than subtraction anywhere else. And there is more...
You will be exposed to transformational methods invented by Virginia Satir, pioneering family therapist. Satir was an expert at helping an individual and a group of individuals (a family or team) transform themselves. Her methods helped the members observe and communicate dynamics and thus discover what was happening so they could make plans and steer themselves to harmony. And there is more...
By joining us, you add your own talents to the mix, helping make AYE learning opportunities unique, helping other participants amplify their effectiveness and helping your organization's effectiveness when you return.
I hope you will join us.

Jerry Weinberg, who normally sends these messages, had emergency surgery on Saturday, November 14. The good news is he is recovering nicely. The bad news is that he cannot travel during the 4-6 week period necessary for recovery so he won't be able to participate at the conference this year. For the most up to date information about Jerry's status see our web site.
