ChocoholicsAnonymous

My name is MikeMelendez and I am a chocoholic. KurtSimmons notes started my thoughts. Then discussions with SuePetersen and Kurt at AYE about chocolate got me going big time. Sue spoke of Euphoria chocolates from Oregon. Kurt spoke of many varieties, though I am especially taken by a seasonal raspberry chocolate that he described. I have asked for a chocolate exchange with both offering the Boston local Harbor Sweets. Then I thought, this should not end here. What are the local chocolates where you live? I have a deep fondness for See's from my childhood in Los Angeles. What chocolates do you have a special fondness for? I know this topic is not technical, but I also know it is deeply human. So I think it appropriate for AYE.

After talking to Kurt, I was thinking maybe we could do a chocolate-tasting BOF, where everyone brings a sample of their local specialities. There are two Toronto shops I like, both more-or-less in my neighbourhood. J.S. Bonbons seems to specialize in truffles using herbs & spices more usually associated with savoury foods, things like rosemary or chili peppers. My favourite is a coriander lime. The other place is Stubbe. He's a 3rd or 4th generation chocolatier from Switzerland, and his stuff is very trad and very good. The capuccino truffles are fabulous. But as to the appropriateness, might there be other deeply human topics that we would not want to consider? (-: FionaCharles 16-Nov-2005
Fiona,

Maybe it's the chocolate, but I had the same idea for a BOF when Kurt first posted. Somehow, I shied away from suggesting it. There's definitely something about chocolate.

As to other inappropiate topics, I'm always dazzled by the self-reference of statements like your last. Somehow, I never get out of the feedback loop, yours being particularly subtle. :-o

Okay, are we really anonymous if we have our names all over the posts? Now everyone will know. (More chocolate at the BOF that way. :-) )
I am less concerned about anonymity on this one than attending the BOF. Let's do it. SherryHeinze 2005.11.21
