CringleyOnOutsourcing

Robert X. Cringley has a piece on the larger picture of oursourcing (and offshoring) that puts it all in a larger context. It reads like a train wreck.

Lessons here? Oh, yeah. Don't do due dilligence, bid low to win the contract, then figure out how to service it. Caught by surprise at the stuff you should have discovered before bidding? Cut your costs, and more work offshore. Is anyone happy? No.

It sounds like Wal Mart is happy.

Fascinating article. Thanks, Dave.

Is the Wal Mart answer the only one? Is there a way between "give it all away to an expert" and "let's do it all ourselves"? The article suggests that EDS would have done better to emulate Lockheed-Martin on the U.K. MoD contract. In which case, the Navy's problem remains unsolved.
