JbRainsbergerFor a quick overview of me: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?JbRainsberger My interest in AYE comes after several years of attending more technical conferences. I have improved my technical skills considerably over the past five years, and now it's time to improve my communication skills. (Any improvement there has been haphazard and unintentional. I believe some people call it "the maturing process".) I am attending on the recommendation of Michael Bolton, so the pressure is squarely on him. In the time since AYE 2005, I have managed to begin to feel burnt out, so I am taking off the entire summer. I hope this will help recharge my batteries and prepare me for the next stage of my working life. In the meantime, any suggestions on how I can deal with the burn-out feeling would be great. -- JbRainsberger 25.06.2006 Taking the summer off is a great start! Do something new or do something old. Look inside you and find something fun you have not done in ages. For me that is afternoon matinees at the movie theater. I find lots of energizing ideas, and making a lazy afternoon of it can be quite rejuvenating. The other choice is to look inside and find something new to do. A new hobby, a trip, or read a new book. If you immerse yourself in a new domain you will gets lots of new components you can integrate into the broken or worn down parts of yourself. See Johyn Boyd's Essay on Destruction and Creation for more ideas. KurtSimmons 2006.06-25 I didn't anticipate a conversation, silly me, so I haven't looked at this in months. I'm rectifying that now that I've arrived. Welcome! Do you prefer to be called Joe or something else? I wasn't sure from your wiki page. I think MichaelBolton can handle the pressure :-) -- JohannaRothman 2005.06.02 I generally say, "'J. B.' in print, 'Joe' in person." Hey, Joe. I'm looking forward to meeting you. I love it when tool makers come to realize that there's more to the business than handing out hammers, even if they're great hammers. You're going to love AYE, and AYE will love you. Michael won't have to worry.- JerryWeinberg 2005.05.04 It will be a pleasure to get to know you better, Jerry. We met over dinner at SD West Expo 2005, after your keynote, but I had no time to leave an impression through the week. I intend to change that this time. JbRainsberger 2005.11.05 CONGRATULATIONS on winning the Gordon Pask award. I'm very impressed. -- JohannaRothman 2005.08.08 Thank you, Johanna. It was an honor and a very pleasant surprise. Joe, what a great thing. Gordon Pask was a great friend of mine, and you should be proud, doubly proud, of the award, which you greatly deserve. - JerryWeinberg 2005.08.10 There is no doubt that I'm honored to have received such an award from a community I was frightened to death of joining only four years ago.
