PersonalDevelopmentWorkshopUk

Monday 11th September & Tuesday 12th September 2006

To be led by JeanMcLendon LCSW, LMFT President of Avanta, the Virginia Satir Network, & mentored by Virginia Satir for approximately 20 years, Jean has dedicated her working life to the Satir therapeutic approach.

Using Satir humanistic methods, the Personal Development Workshop aims to educate individuals in:-

  • a deeper understanding of the self and others
  • methods of congruence
  • enhancing self esteem
  • facilitation of change and
  • responsibility for the above
  • the beneficial effect of personal growth on intra & interpersonal relationships

Realisation of these parts of the self helps us on our way to a peaceful & joyful freedom, enabling us to grow & change lives, and a reach out to a fulfilment of the internal human spirit.

The workshop is open to individuals, couples, and small groups and is the first of such to be held in the UK. We especially welcome those who are already part of the Satir family and would be willing to help expand the organisation into the UK.

WORKSHOP PROGRAMME

Jean explores the Satir concept of congruence; BEING CONNECTED WITH WHO WE ARE, AT ANY ONE POINT IN GIVEN TIME, in relation to our place in the universe, and to others around us.

DAY ONE

~ Meditation Bringing our inner self into focus, enhancing the hidden energy we so often ignore. It is with this energy we can be really true. Virginia called this connectedness the third energy.

~ Five Freedoms How our family of origin has taught us who we are, and how that knowledge influences us today.

~ The Satir Change Model How we can acknowledge need for change and the use of effective coping mechanisms to that end.

~ Building Self Esteem A look at conflict resolution and how congruence can help with defensive coping mechanisms, and thus enable positive problem solving techniques.

DAY TWO

~ Meditation

To become acquainted with who lives inside of me,
to love and understand my parts ..... Virginia Satir

~ Family Sculpting Using Satir psychodrama techniques, exploration of the family of origin, and histories before it. Stories can be re-told gaining insight into suppressed feelings, resulting in peace and compassion, with the help of those around them.

~ Feedback and debriefing on workshop Space for those who wish to share what they have gained, understood/misunderstood on the work undertaken.

~ Expanding the Satir family in the UK Ideas and information on how we can achieve a Satir network, and possible further workshops within the UK. Feedback from other Satir Groups will be gratefully received.
