RobMyers

2005 will be my first AYE conference, and I'm looking forward to it!

I'm not sure what to expect, but that's why I'm excited. After many years of being a software developer, and then an XP coach, I'm ready to learn how to educate and encourage teams to build quality software and live balanced lives.

At this point, I may be merely acknowledging the path that I have discovered already beneath my feet. I'm not exactly sure how I got here, but "Hey! Wow!"

Now, it's a matter of getting good at it, so that I can help even more.

Many thanks to my boss, AlanShalloway, for paying the way. (And to JeffMcKenna, for possibly exposing my karass, so to speak! ;)

I've noticed people listing their Myers-Briggs (no relation). On most days, I play it from the INTJ space.

My provisional 2005 schedule, with alternatives listed highest-preference-first:
  • Mon
    • AM S04 or S03
    • PM S22 or S13
  • Tue
    • AM S21 or S15 or S02
    • PM S20 or S05 or S12
  • Wed
    • AM S14 or S16
    • PM S17 or S25

Rob,

Welcome to AYE. Many of us share the "Hey! Wow!" experience. DonGray 2005.04.27

Rob, I'm glad you'll be joining us this year. -- JohannaRothman 2005.04.27

Welcome to AYE, Rob.

Rob, among the best things you'll get at AYE is a sense of how much you know about coaching teams that you haven't articulated, how much you have to share with other team coaches, and that although you're exceptional among techies in your interest in how people work together, you're not alone, and you're not crazy. - JerryWeinberg 2005.05.01
Thanks, all! I just looked over the proposed list of sessions, and I'm going to have a tough time deciding which sessions to miss. Can we please schedule them all back-to-back (in series), and I'll just forego food and sleep? - RobMyers 2005.06.15
We always seem to get this complaint, Rob, but consider the alternative. As for foregoing sleep, it's the sessions outside the sessions that will keep you awake all night. Food, though, we don't forego. You will be well fed. - JerryWeinberg 2005.06.15
Okay, now that we have a complete, official schedule, how do I sign up for a particular session? How do I struggle and compete for the scarce resource of a chair at a popular session?! HOW DO I BATTLE MINE ENEMIES?!?!?! <deep breath> Oh, maybe it's not like those technical conferences I'm used to... - RobMyers 2005.08.15
You're right, it's not like what you're used to. EVERYONE gets a chair at the AYE conference! ;{)

But seriously folks ... in the next few weeks session sign up pages will appear on the wiki. Anyone can attend any session. The session limits provide a guideline. Should a session be wildly popular, the Program Committee reserves the right to figure out how to schedule it twice [if the presenter(s) are willing]. This has happened in the past.

So if you see you're sign-upper 21, and the session limit is 20, don't panic, we'll find a chair for you.

Does this help? DonGray 2005.08.15

And for those of you who are new and as resistant to deciding ahead what we want to do as I am, no one will make you attend a session you indicated an interest in attending either. SherryHeinze 2005.08.15
Very nice feedback. Thank you both! Right now I'm plotting out my single-threaded adventure at AYE, and again lamenting that I'm not a multi-threaded being (a la David Brin's Kiln People). - RobMyers 2005.08.15
Rob, you can multi-thread in your head--that's allowed. Be in one session, think about another. We may mess with your head, but never surgically. - JerryWeinberg 2005.08.15
For multi-threading, I've always prefered a large cardboard box with a stuffed tiger to run it. Perhaps the hotel will supply one? Then again, my dupes always get me in trouble when I do that. - MikeMelendez 2005.08.16
