And there's a 7-11 Store across the street that has all sorts of beverages plus all those little last-minute necessities. - JerryWeinberg 2004.04.05

... including bottled water. Picking up a case to split with a friend or two can be a good move given the dry climate of Phoenix. -DaveSmith

You must take care crossing the street during certain times of the day. It reminds me of some LA streets! CharlesAdams 2004.04.05
That all sounds good too...I somehow imagined the hotel kind of far from stores and stuff... most of my US hotel experiences have been out in the burbs, walking along interstates to find a stripmall or an IHOP :-) Anyone know if there's an IHOP close by ? --AlanFrancis
Alan, do you like IHOP? <g> Or are you concerned about finding lunch and dinner without a car? The hotel has a restaurant, and I like their breakfasts, but I try to eat lunch and dinner elsewhere. I've found that if I wander thru the lobby about 5PM in the evening, it's easy to find a group of people going out to eat. Usually several groups, and the worst problem is choosing which one to join. :-)

There's a good collection of restaurants with a 2 mile drive, including at least one good and one bad Thai place, most of the standard mini-mall restaurants, and at least two good Mexican restaraunts. Oh, and a Cold Stone ice cream store.
We supply lunch as part of the conference fee. And if you really want to make sure you have transportation to dinner, you can post a sign on our message board. I'm sure someone with a car will be happy to go out with you. Cabs are pretty cheap too. JohannaRothman 2004.03.09
Well. Firstly, I do love IHOP :-) Aside from just being a big pancake fan, the best thing about IHOP is that when I used to wake up hungry in the suburbs of Chicago at about 4am jetlagged all to hell, I could stumble out along the road and get breakfast, then head back and try to doze until all the sane people were awake :-) 24 hour breakfast is a wonderful thing you have in your fine country :-)

Secondly, thanks for all the other options. I'm looking forward to eating a good dinner in a good restaurant with some good company. :-)

IHOP occupies a special place in my head. It's one of things I can only do when I'm in the US, which isn't very often these days, so it's something I feel compelled to do when I get there :-) Some other things on that list are "drink Coke Classic", and "Buy Levi's 560 jeans that fit me". --AlanFrancis 2004.04.11

OK, Alan. If you need a ride to the nearest IHOP, look me up and I'll drive you. You may need to warn me a day ahead of time, if you want me to be awake in the morning <g>, but I'll make sure you get your IHOP fix. :-) Oh--and you get to navigate. I should have my GPS unit with me, but I can't drive and read street signs at the same time, and I figure driving is more important. :-)

Hi Sue, I may just take you up on that early one morning if you're not careful :-) --AlanFrancis 2004.04.12

Alan, I looked it up. claims there is at least one IHOP in Scottsdale. <wide g> I _like_ Scottsdale, that's where all the good jewelry galleries are. :-)

SuePetersen 2004.04.12

Outing to Scottsdale, then Sue? I'll sit in IHOP for an hour and eat Bacon, Eggs and Pancakes while I read my book and you can shop for Jewelry ?
Excellent, that sounds like fun! :-) It's been a while since I ate at IHOP but I seem to remember something about strawberry pancakes that I really enjoyed. :-) You may have to remind me closer to November, if I'm busy my memory turns into a sieve... <wry g> But I just added it to the ToDo list in my Palm Pilot, so it must be official! :-)
