BobLeeHi! I'm Robert E. Lee, and I had the honor to suggest the "Amplify + Effectiveness" part of the acronym "AYE" for the conference name when Jerry and gang were looking for a catchy conference name in the SHAPE forum. I'll be attending this year for a chance to meet with all my virtual friends from SHAPE, AYE and other connections. Unfortunately, I hadn't been to AYE nor to Jerry's workshops. They were high on my list of TO-DOs once my employment situation sorted itself out. Sometimes things do sort out - not necessarily the way you imagine!
I've worked in software development for 30+ years, but managed to find myself outside looking back in since 1998. Since I've been outside the software business, I've enjoying a complete change of experience in teaching special education classes for elementary school kids. The pay is rediculously low, but the significance of the contributions is marvelous. I've used Jerry's QSM Volume 3 Congruent Action heavily with these kids - all the behaviors in the book and then some! I'm halfway through on a masters degree program to refresh my marketability and to network with some local practitioners. I'm taking an MS in Cross-Disciplinary Studies with core concentrations in Software Development & Management and HR Organizational Development. The academic world is so weird after 31 years in software development: the Rochester Institute of Technology's library had no knowledge of Kent Beck as an author, but the course textbooks for one of the courses in SD&M features Peopleware -- there may be hope!
Dundee is my horse's name, I find it a lot easier to get unique IDs with "Dundee" than with "Robert E. Lee", and anyway, a lot of what I learned about managing difficult [behaviorally-challenged] kids came from working with this 1000-pound rabbit or his stablemate, Magic. When you're into horses, you can't have just one horse, you have to have at least 2. Horses are herd animals and they go crazy when alone. Keeping 2 horses keeps us into rural sprawl for acreage, so we keep trying to encroach on those charming cities, but they keep trying to put us at a distance. I love to rant, if only to keep the synapses firing. You'll usually find me either lurking or contributing on the SHAPE forum on Jerry's site. I'm working with NynkeFokma & BeckyWinant as well as other volunteer Open Source workshop developers on BbbRr, a year-long facilitated workshop. We think we've got some neat ideas converging in this. If interested look into BbbRrBirdsOfaFeather Monday night. Ties into WhyWeDoNotUsePowerPoint a bit. Welcome, Bob, from all of us. We'll always be greatful for your creativity. I hope someday AYE'll get to meet Robert E. Lee! Becky, everybody's always "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee!" Maybe that's why project deadlines are such a hassle for me! Bob 2/19/02 Bob - I play that song on my accordion! If you ask nicely.... :-)))) EstherDerby 030102 Sounds wonderful to me! --Bob 2002.08.03 BobLeeBackStory GuestBook
