DavidPickettHi, all! I'm a "Lead Developer," whatever that is, at a small ISV. My blog is at http://exold.com/, and I'm a member of the SHAPE forum, though I haven't been terribly active there. I was at AYE 2004, and I was going to try and make it to AYE 2006. However, it turns out that my wife is expecting a baby in November, so it seems I'll have to hold out for AYE 2007. That crazy biology...never seems to worry about schedule conflicts! :) Updated 2006.04.17. Hey, David, thanks for the update. We'd be happy if you get into more active SHAPE, but you're also fine just the way you are. Hope you can make it this year. Let me know if I cana help (and that goes for everyone, as, for example, on SelenaDelesie.). - JerryWeinberg 2006.01.30 Welcome, David. SteveSmith 2004.06.11 David here's to hoping it all turns out well!- What will make it turn out well for you? DonGray 2004.06.16 My goal is to come out of the experience having learned something (several somethings?) that I can apply to do what I do better. From the things I've read about previous years, I think I'd have to work not to learn at least something useful. The past three or so conferences I've been to have been technical conferences (WinDev and the like), and those are useful, but I feel like I'm at a point where my interpersonal skills and team interactions are holding me back more than my technical knowledge. Hence my choice of a non-hardcore-coding conference of some sort. I'm sure the standard (for a reason) clich of "the more you put into it the more you'll get out of it" applies. I hope that I am able to put into it as much as possible. Got to work to overcome that introversion! Given your pretense, David, I think you're coming to the right place. The title won't make you a lead, but your imagination can. Welcome. -- MikeMelendez 2004.06.17 Y'ep. Mike's correct. Based on what you're interested in learning, you choose the correct conference. Maybe you just need to get better at "introversion." Check out session S07. How to Survive, Excel and Advance as an Introvert. I'm looking forward to meeting you. I'm an expatriate. Shoveled enough snow in Robbinsdale/Crystal/Golden Valley as a young'un that I moved south where I get just enough snow to remind me why I left. DonGray 2004.06.17 David, welcome. I'll be speaking at SD-BP, so if there's good gossip, I'll let you know that :-) I also blog, (links on my page), as do EstherDerby and KeithRay. I'm not sure who else blogs who's coming to AYE this year. -- JohannaRothman 2004.06.17 Thanks all! Added Esther's blog to my subscriptions...I already had Keith's and both of Johanna's in my list. Don, you may get snow sometimes, but do you get the giant mosquitos as well? What about the tornadoes? Surely you've got to miss more than the snow! - DavidPickett Don, you may get snow sometimes, but do you get the giant mosquitos as well? What about the tornadoes? Surely you've got to miss more than the snow! Ah, the state bird. And how about "The Land of 10,000 lakes, and 5,000 fish"? Occasionally I miss Rapid City, but not enough to go back. Mt Pilot is a great place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit. DonGray 2004.06.17 Just wanted to pop back in and say quickly (from beneath my deluge of catch-up)--it's fun to re-read the stuff here and associate it with the "live" people, now that I've met you. I hope to write in more depth about it at some future point, possibly on my blog, but my nutshell review of AYE is "worthwhile beyond my capacity to describe in a pithy (no lisp) fashion, and perhaps in any fashion at all." I really had a great time. Everyone there was an integral part of said great time :). Thanks! DavidPickett 2004.11.12 I've got an Exciting (aka "scary") challenge at work, and I was wondering if anyone had ideas they'd like to share. I'll make a new post at NewbieIntroducingAgile.
