GoalDonor

Before ExtremeProgramming was written up in book form, it was discussed on the C2 wiki, with the name "GoalDonor" being used for "the person who knows the requirements." The XP books termed this role "The Customer," which has caused all sorts of misunderstandings ever since.

On the C2 wiki, they also used the term GoldOwner, for the person(s) who had the money -- the funder of a project.

Too cute -- GoldOwner and GoalDonor sound too similar.

There is a consultant named III (really, that's his name), who, as far as I know, originated GoalDonor, and GoldOwner coinages as very important people involved with a project. He's had papers in private circulation for years about this. Approximately:

  • The GoalDonor, "donates" a problem to solve, or other goal.
  • The GoldOwner, "donates" the funds to allow the work to happpen.

They're both important.

I'm not surprised that you haven't heard of III. He doesn't even have e-mail last I knew. Fascinating person.

I've heard of III, even read a article by III, but I hadn't heard of this coinage originating with him, and he either doesn't participate in the C2 wiki, or doesn't sign his contributions as "III".

Does III have a web-site? (Web-searching "III" isn't going to find him easily.)

Negative on a web-site for III. In some ways III is even more of a Luddite than I. I found his papers on GoalDonor and GoldOwner less compelling than discussion in person. I don't have permission to circulate them.

Can someone send me contact info for III? I seem to have lost that in the great desktop meltdown of 2003 (great to me, anyway.)
