NormJanoff

This is my first AYE Conference.

I've taken the Myers-Briggs test and came out as an INTJ.

My career background is in software development. I began as a software engineer (using the term loosely), moved into management and then with the downsizing of middle management moved into Software Quality (not testing), covering items such as software reviews, software productivity and project retrospectives.

I then started shifted to project management and obtained the PMP certification. With the problems in the telecommunications industry, I am presently looking for a new position in software project management.

My personal history is briefly as follows: I grew up in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY and then headed to the midwest where I graduated with EE/Computer Option degrees from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and the University of Illinois. I began work in Chicago and graduated from the University of Chicago's MBA program with a Finance Major before moving to Phoenix, AZ.

Outside of work, my interest include running (completed the Boston Marathon in 1998 with a time of 3:23), writing the numeric runner column for the Arizona Roadracer, and being a passionate Wolverine fan.

Welcome, Jay, from another Michigan alum. (

GO BLUE!

) (FYI, that's how you shout on the wiki.)

Being that you're local, we'll all be hitting you up for advice on local restaurants and other essentials. Hope you don't mind. - JerryWeinberg 2003.10.22

HI,

I am INTJ as well. I would love to talk with you about your experiances with an MBA. I am considering one. The current job environment is causing me to reconsider my carrer.

Greetings Norm!
That's a great Marathon time... I've run a few marathons in the past but now mostly do road racing/trail running.
I'd be interested to hear about any good areas near the conference hotel for some running...

Hi Norm! I'm another MBA in Finance. I'm Director, Portfolio Strategy at Fannie Mae. We manage an $800 billion investment portfolio -- and I'm constantly in need of smart MBA's to test highly analytical financial and accounting software. I'm also an INTJ, I think. I have great respect for Chicago's MBA's, we have lots of you guys here at Fannie Mae. Looking forward to talking to you at the conference. DaveRabinek 2003.10.23
Dave, I think you'll take the prize this year for managing the biggest portfolio. Bigger than my personal one, at any rate. - JerryWeinberg 2003.10.23
Norm, I'm another INTJ! Since this is such a rare temperment, I'm suprised to find at least three at the conference. It will be interesting to see if there are others. It also sounds like there are a few financial people in the group. It would be fun to hear of your experience in the MBA program. I'm sorry to hear about your experiences in the telecommunications industry. I hope you find a software project management position that you enjoy. JonathanPeel 2003.10.27
Jonathan, I think you will find the INTJ's seriously overrepresented at AYE, compared with the general population. It's the ENTJs I worry about, if we have too many of them. (Two in one room is often too many.) What I love most about INTJs (among many things) is the way they cannot be moved except by logic, but when you find the right logic, they just move, no fuss, no muss. - JerryWeinberg (INFP) 2003.10.27

Now I am waiting with baited breath. What happens if we get too many ENTJ's in a room? Something biblical?

This is an experiential conference. You'll learn next week. I'm sure we have at least two. - JerryWeinberg 2003.10.28
