I am a Computer Programmer who develops applications to increatese the transparency in an oganization. Mostly I have been working on build and release tools but I have many monitoring and tracking tools which are interesting. Some
of my tools track and monitor machines or binaries others are for organizations.
My most interesting programming project, is my work on Tinderbox2 the 'Development Monitoring System'
I am very interested in 'Best Practices' and am working on a paper to help understand the best practices for managing a production environment. There are plenty of ideas about how to improve development but few on how to improve everything that comes after the release. NeedForProductionKeyProcessArea Recently I have been doing some thinking about Virginia Satir's models. Please tell me what you think of these investigations TenCommandmentsofEgolessProgramming JohnsonoConnorResearchFoundation TheReidTechniqueofInterviewingandInterrogation PositiveReinforcementVsBribing Here is a picture of me from the conference, I am in the middle looking at the camera. What about the InternationalAssociationOfFacilitators?
The book says that you should not raise children until you have trained a chicken.
I just ordered a bunch of info from Karen Pryor's ClickerTraining.com at http://www.clickertraining.com/ Look at this they hold a Checken Training camp! Introductory Chicken Training Camp July 23-27, 1999
Intermediate Chicken Training Camp October 27-31, 2000 Bob Bailey Ken -- I read your article -- the situation you describe resonates for me. A while back I was system manager for a large installed application. The development manager actually instructed the development staff not to talk to the folks who supported the system and understood it's run characteristics because it was a "waste of time." The people supporting the system had lots of valuable design insights that were never used. EstherDerby 7/13/01 Hi Ken. I can see you're going to be a valuable participant in the conference, and in this conference-before-the-conference. BobKing and I are doing a session on how to get your project started right, and one of the most important parts of getting a new project started right is to study how the products of the old projects are actually working, so you're right on target for us. Welcome! This sentence: "I am a Computer Programmer who develops applications to increase the transparency in an oganization." is just wonderful. I wonder, however, transparancy of what? Development process? System state? Performance and productivity? Management skill? Technical skill? Quality of artifacts? And I wonder (actually, I don't) whether you can touch any one of these "of what's" without touching the others? - JimBullock, 2002.10.1 It is interesting to note that sentance was written last year. This year I do not feel like "a programmer" regardless of what qualifiers are put on it. I am not sure what I am but I do have a GPS so I do not feel the need to go find myself. - KenEstes 2002.10. Ken, I enjoyed REALLY meeting you this year at the conference. Jim is correct, it is not me but the "other" Gray you were looking for. Mark couldn't make it this year, but Rita did. Perhaps he'll be able to attend next year. The only one that's been published that isn't there is Don't Just Do Something Stand There which can still be found on the STQE web site. I haven't had a chance to follow through the links on your page ... So many great thoughts, so little time. I hope we can keep in touch as this year goes by, and to see you again at next year's conference. 2002.11.10 DonGray Thanks Don, it was great meeting you too.
