Hi, Charles - I haven't drawn or painted in years either. I never learned representational depiction - I mostly worked with color, shape, and tranparency in mixed media. But recently I picked up a copy of the Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Workbook. Perhaps we have a BOF and work through some of the drawing exercises. EstherDerby 2006.07.21 I don't find much time for drawing (and none for painting) these days, and I'm certainly not very good at it. I find the best thing is to take a class, as it gives me inspiration and encouragement, plus goads me into doing something about it weekly for the term of the class. That said, I haven't taken one in a year and a half. Well, if Volker Frank signs up we have a lead. Many of us enthralled at his sketchbooks from last year. There is much to be learned from drawing, I agree. I started Drawing on the Artist Within as part of my creativity research last year. I found myself waylaid by the large number of exercises requiring "30 minutes of quiet time." I too like the idea of a session, if for perhaps no other reason than it would force me to finish the book while thinking about which exercises would be good ones for a session. KurtSimmons 2006.07.22 And I'm trying to encourage DennisCadena to participate. His paintings are superb. I suspect there's a whole lot of unknown graphic art talent amount AYEers. Maybe we should have an art show, as part of the BOF. - JerryWeinberg 2006.07.23 What day and time would be good for the BoF or is a contributed session slot a better fit? CharlesAdams 2006.07.24 A contributed session has to have someone willing to "contribute" it--that is, to lead it, prepare for it, etc. A BoF could have that, but doesn't have to. All it needs is someone to show up and be there with others, to do what they want. So, unless someone is willing to step forward and "contribute," then by default it will be BoF. - JerryWeinberg 2006.07.24. But, but, but there are so many great sessions already! It's only my second AYE and I have not tried them all yet. I could step up to contribute, but then I would have to miss something I want to attend. Does contributing a BoF improve the chances of people attending? I could work up a mini-session based on what I have learned. Two hours can easily fit in an evening space, and leave room for dinner. (that would cover four 20 minute exercises and some discussion, or something like that.) Of course what would cramp my leading a Chocolate BoF... KurtSimmons 2006.07.25 My queston was only one for clarification. A BoF in the evening would be fine by me. I concur with the problem of picking and choosing. There are so many tasty and nourishing morsels for the mind and the spirit. CharlesAdams 2006.07.25 Speaking of tasty morsels, Kurt, you could do a session in the evening on "drawing in chocolate," or at least you could lure some chocoholics by promising chococate to everyone who shows up. - JerryWeinberg 2006.07.25 I draw in chocolate wherever I go. Tell everyone you love it and it comes out of the woodwork at you. KurtSimmons 2006.07.25 Suggested Books for the Bof
CharlesAdams 2006.07.22 As Sherry noted on the ChocolateBof, we are approaching AYE. I propose the Drawing BOF be held Monday evening before dinner to see if we can get a consensus for a day and a time. I will bring Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain CharlesAdams 2006.10.06
