MarkusSchnell

Hi!

My name is Markus Schnell and I'm living in Munich, Germany.

The company I'm working with develops application specific interface circuits (ASICs). There, I'm responsible for firmware development. Because our firmware is mostly developed by subcontractors, I'm interested in ways to enable a smooth, high-quality development process.

My tasks range from the very technical (How can we have a shared world-wide repository that adheres to company IT regulations?) to the therapeutical (How can I help subcontractors talk to each other?).

Eventually, most technical tasks turn out to be not so technical at all, but involve communication and interaction between individuals, and sometimes (always?) change on all three levels: individual, team, organization.

Therfore, I hope to get some good ideas at my first AYE conference.

Sessions I would like to attend (as of 2006-09-12):

Sunday SessionSix000 (Warumup Tutorial)
Monday am SessionSix008 (Compensating for Distance)
SessionSix021 (Testing)
SessionSix025 (Development Mysteries)
Monday pm SessionSix014 (Organizational Mapping)
SessionSix028 (Putting Your Power to Work)
SessionSix012 (Management Behind Closed Doors)
Tuesday am SessionSix007 (Experience the Diagram of Effects Process)
SessionSix015 (Reinventing Yourself)
SessionSix010 (Giving and Receiving Feedback)
SessionSix020 (Building a Strong Foundation)
Tuesday pm SessionSix005 (Congruence is the Foundation of All Effectiveness)
SessionSix030 (Creating powerful conversations)
Wednesday am SessionSix027 (Resistance as a Resource)
Wednesday pm SessionSix016 (Transforming Rules into Guides)
SessionSix026 (Agenda, Agenda, who has the Agenda?)
SessionSix001 (How am I supposed to Act in THIS situation?)

I realize it is not trivial to be at more than one place at the same time.

Welcome Markus!

You want people to talk to each other? Silly Rabbit! But seriously, I spoke with a guy on the bus after my first AYE last year and he said the same thing. Even the most technical of tasks come down to communication between people. I'm sure you'll get lots of good ideas. I'll cast a vote for JerryWeinberg 's More Secrets of Consulting as a good book to have read before you get there.

Markus, I'm glad you're participating this year. I'm sure you'll find lots of techniques to help people talk to each other :-) -- JohannaRothman 2006.06.21
Thanks for the Welcome!

Kurt, I already read More Secrets of Consulting and understand perfectly why you recommend it. The tool that was/is most missing from my toolbox is the WishingWand. I was totally surprised by the concept: It's okay to have wishes, and to paraphrase your wants. That doesn't mean you get what you want. But you don't have to refrain from asking only because you think you would ask too much.

I'll reread some of the chapters in More Secrets of Consulting.

Here is some more information about me: I think my Myers-Briggs type is INTP, but it could also be INTJ, I'm not decided yet. (Does that make it INTP?) I never took an official test, but in online tests it's at least always INTx.

By the way, would you recommend attending the warm-up tutorial?

-- MarkusSchnell 2006-06-26

Hi, Markus. I recommend the warm-up tutorial to anyone who has not been before, unless they are already very familiar with Virginia Satir and MBTI. I am one of the people who requested it after the first conference. People will happily define any terms you don't know, but it helps to have a common vocabulary.

And I went without the warmup tutorial for my first year. What I missed most was the MBTI stuff. However if you have taken the tests and read your profile (See INTP write up) and maybe a couple others I think you are covered there. I read several of Jerry's books before I got there so that helped. Rereading more about the Self-Esteem Toolkit covered in Secrets and other Satir concepts (congruence) can take the place of the warmup session. (Of course this may only apply to NT's. :-) ) (That's the kind of joke the warmup tutorial helps you get the first time.)

Markus, if you can figure out how to clone yourself, please let me know. There are plenty of times I would like to be in two (or three or four...) places at once. -- JohannaRothman 2006.08.24

Johanna, I was thinking of employing a Flux Compensator, but they are difficult to get these times and can have unintended side effects. (Also, I'm not sure if they are allowed on planes.) It seems I'll have to stay with the Rational Priority Setting Process. -- MarkusSchnell 2006-08-24

Markus, as project manager for the 2006 conference, I hereby announce a new pricing policy. If you bring your clone, he can register for half-price tuition (even less if one of you tells me how you did it). - JerryWeinberg 2006.09.17
How would you know both of us are here? -- MarkusSchnell, 2006-09-20
Exactly, we just have to be careful not to be seen together. -- MarkusSchnell, 2006-09-20
My clones will know. - JerryWeinberg 2006.09.20
