NavajoJewelry

OK, it's a GO. I'll bring some of my books and try to put together a couple of pages of tips on buying jewelry without getting ripped off. I collect SW jewelry, including Navajo, Hopi, Zuni, and Pueblo silversmithing. I also collect Navajo rugs, and so does Jerry. I don't want to restrict this, I figure art in general has things to teach us about living in and interacting with the world around us.

I might be able to get a native silversmith to come show us some things.

I am fascinated by the different ways people think and experience the world. One of the best Navajo silversmiths in the world today appears to "think in colors", as best as I can understand what he's saying. I want to understand more about how other people think, I want to extend my own appreciation of life and the universe. Art is one way I've found to do that. And my bracelets have some very practical uses in my life as well.

If you're interested, please leave your name here, so I can get a rough count.

I'll almost certainly be doing some gallery crawling in Scottsdale. If anybody wants to come with me, leave your name here. If people indicate they're interested ahead of time, I'll do some formal planning. :-)

Sue, I'm interested, but timing might be difficult. Sunday the 7th could work. When were you thinking of? FionaCharles 30-Aug-2004

I'd love to have your company! I'm not sure about time yet. Some of the galleries close early in the evenings, so I'd probably want to scout out which galleries we plan on visiting and see what the hours are. Maybe late Thursday afternoon would work?

I probably won't be in Phoenix until pretty late on the 7th, I'm planning to spend that weekend in Sedona and driving back south on Sunday afternoon. And I'm trying to set up a time to get together with a friend who lives in Scottsdale, so my schedule is uncertain at the moment. I should have a car all week, though.

Sue, I see I've taken months to get back, for which I apologize. Would love to join you (though am a bit worried about succumbing to expensive temptation. Let's talk when we know what BOFs we're doing & when, and see if we can find a time that works for us both.

Well, don't count on me for help with 'expensive temptation'! <g> Although seriously, let me know what kind of advice and help you want, and I'll do my best. Much of the jewelry in Scottsdale will be Phillippine imitations, but there is some good stuff there, in all price ranges.

About scheduling the BOF - would Tuesday evening work for everybody? I'm hoping to find a time that works for everybody interested, and I'm open to suggestions! (Although my brain does not attend early morning sessions, even though my body might. <g>)

I'd like to get some idea of what people would like to discuss at the BOF. See PlanningNavajoBof for details.

Ohhhhh.I wish I could be there the night of Nov 11. Unfortunately I will have to leave on the 10th, but maybe next year!!! Marisa b 10/29/2004

I'd like to join you on Tuesday evening and can bring for show and tell two pieces by E.T. that bring me much joy. The workmanship is unbelievable. Although I can't spell his name, it is pronounced something like Ernest Tsosie. KayWise 11/01/2004

How wonderful, Kay, yes do bring your pieces! I've seen one of your bracelets and it is truly beautiful!
