TheStrangelyCompellingPile

I had a small ephiphany about unsortable piles this morning while cleaning my study. Some piles of stuff seem to defy repeated attempts at organizing. What did the trick in my case was finding the right label/frame for the pile.

But I'm wondering. What do other people do when a clump of stuff defies attempts to sort it out in an orderly fashion?

I've become fond of the contractor size/weight trash bags. I have a few more piles to "sort". --DonGray 2006.05.29

The problem with the heavy duty trash bag: I just "sorted" one so full it's hard to lift it. --DonGray 2006.05.30

When my partner & I moved into our house, the miracle of organization that was our beautifully packed and labelled worldly goods included 3 boxes carefully marked "Unsorted Papers - URGENT!!"

Some ten years later, we found them. The Recycling pickup is a wonderful thing.

I say to myself, "I don't know how to sort this pile up to now."

Sometimes that triggers the right organization, sometimes it tells me that maybe tomorrow I will know how to sort it.

I start a new folder. One of my folders says "don't know what to do with this". So far, I've thrown out the contents from several years ago. My stuff is not strangely compelling. :-( -- JohannaRothman 2006.05.30

I seem to have only "the strangely compelling pile." No surrounding order to which it is an exception. I have been making small inroads lately at small kinds of sorting and organization that simply seem strange so far.
