AmplifyYourEffectivenessWithGumChewing gum helps with learning? The arguments set forth make sense. DaveSmith 15 Aug 2002 Interesting. One of the learning preferences that was tested and rated was "intake" - chewing or nibbling while reading or learning. According to their book, it works for some, not for others. The basis of the article above is interesting, but is it a controlled test or anecdotal evidence? -BobLee 2002.08.15 I gave up gum as my dental bills went up. But I regained hope with the website's alternative: music One last point - there is also significant scientific evidence that listening to MUSIC while studying improves your reading and learning skills. ... Here’s the secret: Music that has SIXTY BEATS PER MINUTE, Baroque stuff by Handel, Bach, etc. relaxes and soothes our brain, making learning and remembering easier. Sorry, but hard-rock does NOT work, just “light”-classical or Classical music is the trigger to great learning. No weight gain through nibbling, no filling fallout danger with gum, just pure listening pleasure. - BeckyWinant 2002.08.15 Becky, sugarless gum will keep your brain waves up and your dental bill down. I'm a pack-a-day man! Keeps me from snacking, too. And I listen to music while working. So, I think we will have a special session with gum-chewing lessons at AYE, in time to Mozart. - - JerryWeinberg 2002.08.16 I have also read that smoking (cigars, cigarettes, etc.) also increases the ability to think. The smoke in the air triggers a defense mechanism (you know, where there is smoke there is fire) that increases the flow of blood to the brain. That increases the ability to think better. The side affects, however, are not good. It seems there are many things that help the thinking process. The trick is to learn what helps me do what and when and use those techniques. Is there a technique to help me remember the technqiues? DwaynePhillips 14 March 2003 Interesting note: Spearmint Trident Sugarless Gum contains aspartame (nutrasweet), but Cinnamon Trident Sugarless Gum does not. I don't think chewing gum would help if it gives you a headache . . . -DaveLiebreich 2003.10.04 Aspartame is evil stuff, as I've recently discovered both first-hand and through research. ( on "aspartame" and read the first few links if you want a scare.) Thanks for the Cinnamon Trident Sugerless recommendation. --DaveSmith 2003.10.04 And what does Cinnamon Trident contain? Saccharine? Sucralose. --DaveLiebreich 2003.10.04 And what do I lose with Sucra-lose? Your kidneys, liver, and thymus gland! Or at least, "research is inconclusive." Gives me a wicked headache, that's all I know. I just stick with sugared sweet things nowadays, which makes the dentist happy. --DavidPickett 2005.03.03
