BooksToAvoid

What books did you wish you had never bought or read?

From BookListPage. See also BooksToGiveAway, BooksVeryUsefulOnce, BooksToReferTo, and BooksWhoseFirstHalfIsWorthReading

After all, if someone has discovered that a book is a waste of time and money, why should you need to repeat that experience?

On the other hand, this list could be interesting to debate... I keep a list of books I disliked:

Books I Remember I've Disliked: A rarer continuing story

  • Foundation For Object Relational Databases by C. J. Date & Hugh Darwen -- dreadfully pedantic and oppositional
  • The Capability Maturity Model by Marc Paulk et al -- an example of writing by committee
  • Now Discover Your Strengths by Marcus Buckingham & Donald Clifton -- disappointing compared to First Break All the Rules
  • Work 2.0 by Bill Jensen -- simplistic and deterministic generalizations
  • Rise And Fall Of The American Programmer by Edward Yourdon -- panic & doom, prototypical of outsourcing overseas

After my airplane read on Sunday, I am tempted to add Books Useful Never.
  • Managing Your Boss, by Sandi Mann
